Washington Capitals Win in Overtime 3-2 Against the Winnipeg Jets

On a historical night when Alex Ovechkin scores his 600 career goal the Washington Capitals won in overtime against the Winnipeg Jets. Evgeny Kuznetsov caught a pass from Chandler Stephenson broke off for a break away and scored on Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck.

Alex Ovechkin got the scoring going after he scored on the power play for his first goal of the night. Later that period the Jets tied the game after Nikolai Ehlers tied the game after beating Philipp Grubauer on an unassisted goal.

In the second period Alex Ovechkin scored his historic 600 goal. He became the 20 player in NHL history to get 600 goals, and became the fourth fastest player to achieve it. He is one of the fewer players to get 600 for one franchise as well.

Tonight was also Philipp Grubauer had his third consecutive start and played amazing. He stopping 26 shots. Overall the Capitals played a dominate game outshooting the Jets 43-28, and actually out checked a much larger west coast team. The Capitals also didn’t let in a power play goal on a team who has the most power play goals in the league. The penalty kill has been a weakness recently, and this type of effort they put in tonight’s game is the type of effort and skill is how the Capitals should be preforming every night.

It’s been amazing watching Alex have a hall of fame career in D.C. He is also the first player to get 600 in the modern era as well, so the real question is, is Ovechkin the goat? Will this be the year the Capitals make a real playoff run? Ovechkin is 32 years young and still haven’t been past the second round of the playoffs.
