Washington Capitals Win First Game of the Year 7-0

After coming off a Stanley Cup victory last season the Washington Capitals didn’t show any signs of a Stanley Cup hangover crushing the Boston Bruins 7-0 on opening night.

Not only did they win, but Capitals set an NHL record for largest shutout victory on opening night after winning a Stanley Cup.

This game was everything every Capitals fan anticipated all summer. Everyone looked on the team looked great, and the team chemistry continued from where they left off.

Evgeny Kuznetsov started where he left off in the playoffs after leading the team in points in the postseason scoring two goals, and showed off his world class skating and stick handling skills embarrassing the Bruins defense. Nicklas Backstrom did what he does best and set up great plays ending the night with three assist.

Alex Ovechkin, TJ Oshie and John Carlson all finished the night with a goal and assist. Other goals where scored by Lars Eller and Nic Dowd.

Braden Holtby might not have had a shutout last year, but he’s starting off this year with a shutout stopping all 25 shots.

The Capitals power play looked unstoppable scoring four out of there six power play chances. Everyone tonight was great and the Capitals showed they should still be a favorite to win the cup again.

Another congrats of the night is Maddison Bowey got in his first NHL fight against Sean Kuraly after Kuraly cheapshot Bowey, but the biggest story of the night is how dirty of a player Brad Marchand really is. Marchand dropped his gloves and started punching Lars Eller before he had a chance to drop his gloves, and blooded up Eller.

Just wait until the next time these two teams meet Mr. Marchand January 10 and Tom Wilson will be back in the lineup hope you keep your head up then!
