Capitals hold on to beat the Flyers 5 to 3

The Washington Capitals beat the Philadelphia Flyers by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday. The Capitals took and early five to nothing lead. Braden Holtby had 27 saves and allowed three goals.

The Capitals are 39-21-7 and are currently in first place in the Metropolitan division. On the other hand, the Flyers are 32-27-8 and are in 6th place in the Metropolitan division.

During the first period, Caps winger Tom Wilson scored his 19th goal of the season at 5 minutes and 25 seconds. Brett Connolly scored his 17th goal of the season at 14 minutes and 16 seconds assisted by Carl Hagelin (7th assist of the season) and Matt Niskanen (15th assist of the season).

Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored his 46th of the season at 2 minutes and 32 seconds in the second period. Capitals forward Andre Burakovsky scored his 10th goal of the season assisted by Travis Boyd (14th assist of the season) and Dimitri Orlov (19th assist of the season) at 4 minutes and 18 seconds in the second period.

Caps center Nicklas Backstrom scored his 16th goal of the season at 5 minutes and 37 seconds in the second. Flyers Philipe Myers scored his first NHL goal of the season at 19 minutes and 48 seconds in the second period. Flyers Claude Giroux scored his 20th goal of the season at 10 seconds in the third period. Scott Laughton scored his 10th goal of the season at 7 minutes and 49 seconds in the third.

With the win, the Capitals head back home to D.C. to play the New Jersey Devils Friday at Capital One Arena.
