Washington Capitals Lose to Anaheim Ducks 6-5, have rematch with Knights tonight

The Washington Capitals might have had the worst lost of their season losing to the Anaheim Ducks 6-5. The Capitals blew a 5-1 lead to the Ducks in a heart breaking way.

The defense let Holtby down tonight with blown coverages that lead to Anaheim goals. Special teams was also not clicking today; Washington let the Ducks score two powerplay goals on three chances, and the Capitals only scored one goal on five chances.

The Capitals where also bullied today getting out hit 19 to 9 as well. The Capitals offense played well, but the Capitals didn’t play well defensively.

Braden Holtby also gave up six goals on 25 shots, and some of those goals he could’ve stopped on any other night. Not all the goals where on him, but Holtby has to be better in those situations.

The first period for the Capitals looked to be some of the best hockey they have played all year scoring three goals. Nicklas Backstrom continued where he left off last game scoring a goal in the first 41 seconds; along with goals from Chandler Stephenson and Tom Wilson.

Tom Wilson continues to stay red hot, and continued his goal streak to six games.

The Capitals looked to add onto their lead when Evgeny Kuznetsov scores on of his best goals of the completely embarrassing Ducks goalie Ryan Miller for an easy ESPN top ten play. Later Nic Dowd scored his fourth goal of the year, but then the unexpected happened.

The Ducks scores two goal in under a minute to cut the lead to 5-3 with goals from Andrew Cogliano and Richard Rakell.

The Capitals then in the third period looked decent, but gave the Ducks a lot of opportunities that gave them a win. Ducks forwards Pontus Aberg, Hampus Lindholm and another goal for Aberg have Anaheim the win.

This is a tough lost for Washington, but it’s a loss that they can learn from and move forward from. You always learn best from your mistakes, and this is a prime example of that.

The Capitals are back in action next in Las Vegas tonight while they get a Stanley Cup rematch against the Golden Knights. The game is at 10 PM ET.
