The Washington lost game one of the opening round of the Stanley Cup tournament 4-3 in a devastating overtime lost. The Capitals got off to a great start with Evgeny Kuznetsov scoring two goals within 29 seconds apart.
Blue Jacket forward Josh Anderson helped the Capitals get a lead after he injured Capital defensemen Micheal Kempny that left him to be absent the rest of the game with an upper-body injury. Anderson got a five minute boarding penalty that gave Kuznetsov a two game night.
Later in the second the wheels started to fall apart for the Caps when Alex Wennberg scored to make it 2-1. The Caps played the Blue Jackets hard throughoutthe second period until things started to get bad in the third.
The Caps started making bad turnovers, bad penalties and couldn’t keep a good forecheck through the third period. Thomas Vanek scored to tie the game after a bad turnover.
Then things started to look good again after Jakub Vrana broke free and made an unbelievable pass to Devante Smith-Pelly to give the Capitals a 3-2 lead.
Then moments later Seth Jones embellished a call after catching an edge to give Andre Burakovsky a tripping penalty gave Columbus a power play to set them up to tie the game. Within the first freaking minute of the power play the guy who caused it Seth freaking Jones scores to tie the game.
Then moments later after getting my popcorn ready Blue Jacket forward Artemi Panarin dangled Capitals defensemen Dimitri Orlov and Jakub Jerabek to give the Blue Jackets an overtime win.
The Capitals losing this game made me sick. They are the only home team with a losing record in the playoffs so far. This is not a good start for them after blowing a 2-0 lead.
Will Holtby in be in net next, will they let Beagle play after a horrible night of face offs, will they put Gersich in the lineup I mean come on on man who knows? The Caps until Sunday to prepare and heal up for game two. Let’s just hope they comeback and start playing savage instead of average! ALL CAPS BABy!
