Washington Capitals Destroy Detroit Red Wings 6-2

The Washington Capitals laid a royal beatdown on the Detroit Red Wings 6-2 Tuesday at Capital One Arena.

Goals where coming faster than the Rock in a Fast and Furious movies. Brett Connolly started the night scoring while on the powerplay.

The Capitals fourth-line grind line showed up big tonight forechecking hard all game, and Travis Boyd scored his second goal of the season. Later Alex Ovechkin did what he does best, and fired a puck from the blue-line for a 3-0 Capitals lead after the first period.

Ovechkin later scored another goal in the second period after receiving a great pass from John Carlson for his 24 goal of the season. TJ Oshie followed up Ovechkin goal scoring a powerplay goal for a 5-0 lead after the second period.

Later Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin scored a controversial goal that went under review to make the game a a 5-1 game, but there was nothing to worry about because Alex Ovechkin blasted a rocket of a shot past Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard completing a hat-rick for his 21 career hat-rick!

Besides Ovechkin scoring a hat-rick another star of the game was Braden Holtby. He stopped 35 shots while the Capitals where actually outshot 37 to 25.

Another unknown hero tonight came from arguably the most underrated player in the NHL Nicklas Backstrom who has four assist tonight. That was Backstroms 12th career four assist game.

Good news is the Capitals won, and Alex Ovechkin now leads the NHL I’m goals while the Capitals remain first place in the Metropolitan division.
