Washington Capitals Beat the Calgary Flames in a Shootout 4-3

The Washington Capitals have won there last game on this west coast road defeating the Calgary Flames 4-3 in a shootout. The Capitals played a very good overall game against one of the best team west coast teams.

Jakub Vrana started the Capitals scoring a great goal after receiving an elite pass from Evgeny Kuznetsov. Later TJ Oshie a great backhand goal while on the power play cleaning up a rebound from a shot by Alex Ovechkin.

Unfortunately after being a head by two goals the Capitals let the Flames comeback with two late goals in the first period with goals coming from Travis Hamonic and Eric Lindholm.

Matt Niskanen in the second period blasted a slap shot by Flames goalie Mike Smith who was heavily screened by Dimitri Jaskin to give the Capitals a 3-2 lead going into the third period.

The Capitals unfortunately let the Flames tie the game with a minute left in the game with Flames forward Matthew Tkachuck tipping in the puck past Capitals goalie Phoenix Copley.

The Capitals later had to go into overtime shorthanded for 1:42 seconds, but killed the penalty. The Capitals where forced into a shootout.

The Capitals where sharp on there shootout moves with goals coming from Evgeny Kuznetsov, and the game winner from Nicklas Backstrom.

Phoenix Copley won his first NHL game tonight with 27 saves, and stopping three of the Flames shooters in the shootout. Copley looked sharp all night and made big saves when they needed him.
