Washington Capitals Beat New Jersey Devils in Season Finale 5-3

The Washington Capitals regular season is officially over and the Capitals are heading back to the playoffs. The Capitals will either play the Philadelphia Flyers, or the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The biggest story of the day was Alex Ovechkin going to hit 50 goals? Unfortunately he did not, but he still won Richard trophy with 49 goals.

Ovechkin got the scoring started in this high scoring game scoring a sweet one-timer for a 1-0 lead. Later New Jersey Devil rookie Nico Hischier scores to tie it, but within a minute later Nicklas Backstrom scored to give the Caps a 3-2 lead after one.

In the second period Micheal Kempny scored after getting a pass from rookie Shane Gersich to give Gersich his first NHL point. The Devils later scored two goals to make it a 3-3 game in the third.

But Alex Ovechkin was flying hard to try to get to 50 and he scored an unassisted goal for his 49 goal to give the Capitals a 4-3 lead. Later in the third Andre Burakovsky scores to give the Caps a 5-3 win.

Biggest takeaway was the performance from Braden Holtby. He’s struggled since the All-Star break, but has played well recently. He stopped 23 shots, and made some big saves when he was needed.

Next question is the question we have been asking for years, “is it the Caps year!” The Caps weren’t even thought of winning the Metropolitan Division after losing a lot of players in the offseason, but our young guys have stepped up. For me I truly believe they can do something special this year.

The Capitals are defiantly a hot team going into the postseason winning 12 of 15 games. The Capitals players are going into the postseason full of confidence, and will fight and do what it takes because this tight bunch believes in themselves!
