UMBC uses balanced attack to drop Binghamton

Four Retrievers scored 10+ points Wednesday evening to lead UMBC (16-10, 8-3) over host Binghamton, 64-50.

The Bearcats (7-19, 3-8) hung tough for most of the second half, trailing by two with 6:50 remaining on the clock. Then freshman guard R.J. Eytle-Rock came alive, scoring six of his 13 points in the next 3:43, stretching the lead to nine points.

A three-pointer by graduate student forward Joe Sherburne at the 2:43 mark gave the Retrievers a 59-47 lead, sealing the victory.

The first half was mostly a back-and-forth affair as the Bearcats took a 24-22 lead with 1:38 remaining in the half, but UMBC then went on a 7-0 run to take a cushion into the locker room.

Sherburne finished with 16 points, including 4-6 from long range, and eight rebounds. Teammates K.J. Jackson (Jr./G) and Arkel Lamar (Jr./F) poured in 12 and 10 points respectively.

The Retrievers also received a solid outing off the bench from junior guard Ricky Council II who hit all three of his 3-point attempts.

By contrast, Binghamton received scoring from only four players for the entire game, most coming from freshman guard Sam Sessoms and graduate student guard J.C Show.

Sessoms finished with a game-high 23 points on 10-17 from the field. Show was big from long range, finishing with six 3-pointers and 20 points in the contest.

The Retrievers have swept the regular season series from the Bearcats and are on an eight-game winning streak in the all-time series.

UMBC returns home Saturday afternoon to face the UMass-Lowell Riverhawks.
