UMBC makes History…once again as Men’s Lax upsets #1 ranked Albany 11-7

Newfound UMBC tradition: Upset #1 ranked teams.

This has undoubtedly been the best month span for UMBC Athletics as the UMBC Men’s Lacrosse team capped it off with an upset over the only undefeated team in Division 1, #1 ranked Albany Great Danes.

The 3-7 Retrievers found a way to dominate the best team in a sport once again putting up 11 goals while allowing just 7.

Along with putting an end to Albany’s undefeated record, the Retrievers also put an end to Albany’s 31 game regular season conference win streak.

Billy Nolan was the offensive star for the Retrievers putting on a show with a hat-trick and assisting on two goals. Keeper Tommy Lingner also had an impressive night with 16 saves(70%)!!

Just like the win against #1 UVA, it wasn’t a close, nail-biting game, it was total dominance put on by the Retrievers from start to finish.

Fun Fact: This was the Retrievers first win vs. a ranked team since 1998!

The Retrievers will now continue their conference tour visiting the 3-8 Binghampton Bearcats.
