UFC Wichita: Main Event Mayhem
Wichita, Kansas is the battle ground of fight night this Saturday when the UFC debuts at Intrust Bank Arena. Two heavy hitters share the cage in this clash of top 10 heavyweights as Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis faces Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos.
Junior is coming off back to back wins with a decision over Blagoy Ivanov in July and a second-round knockout over Tai Tuivasa in December. Dos Santos is 20-5 with 14 wins by knockout including 5 first round finishes and is considered an aggressive striker who likes to push the pace. Ranked number 7 in the world this former UFC champion is chasing a run at the title one more time. Make no mistake a win by “Cigano” Saturday night would put him in position for a title shot.
Lewis 21-6 has won 18 by way of knockout and won 9 of his last 11 fights. Coming off a second round submission loss to UFC champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 230 “The Black Beast” has never been more dangerous. Lewis prefers to counter strike and pick his punches where he can land those bone crushing blows that flip the switch in opponents heads and turn their lights off. Ranked number 2 in the world Lewis knows a win over Dos Santos puts him back in the hunt for the title.
Fighting styles are often said to make the best fight and in this case we should have an all out war. Mayhem should define the main event as Dos Santos looks to attack and Lewis to counter strike unleashing those heavy hands. Junior is actually a larger favorite in this fight than I expected based simply on Derrick’s knockout power and game plan to stand by both fighters. My prediction Derrick Lewis by KO/.TKO
