Trent Williams not expected to report to Redskins camp this week

With Redskins training camp scheduled to begin on Thursday, fans have been hiding their breath hoping that perennial pro-bowler Trent Williams reports as scheduled. According to NFL networks Mike Garafolo, that will not happen. In a tweet Monday afternoon Garafolo stated that Williams is not expected to report and it may be a while until he’s back with the team.

William’s did not show for mandatory mini-camp in June amid reports that he was unhappy with his contract and unhappy with the Redskins’ handling of his medical issue. For his part, Williams has not spoken about his holdout and had not released a statement.

Ian Rapoport reminds everyone that William’s may not yet be medically cleared to play after offseason surgery and subsequent medical procedures. It wouldn’t be a proper Redskins training camp without some drama and this year’s promises to be no different.
