Trayvon Reed Dismissed From Terps
Mark Turgeon, head basketball coach of the Maryland Terrapins, dismissed Trayvon Reed from the team following his arrest on Wednesday. Reed was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, resisting arrest and theft.
“Trayvon failed to meet the standards that are required by the University of Maryland athletics department.” In a statement released by Mark Turgeon.
The 7’1″ center was part of an impressive 2014 recruiting class for the Terrapins and ranked ninth in the nation by ESPN for incoming freshmen. Reed is considered a defensive specialist because of his impressive shot-blocking skills and the presence he brings in the paint.
Turgeon did what he had to do. Every student-athlete should be held to a high standard and Trayvon Reed is no different. The newest reports out state that Reed attempted to steal candy and ice cream before assaulting a police officer and one other. This is an embarrassing incident for Reed and the University of Maryland and it is very unfortunate that a top college basketball recruit could do something so outrageous. I am sure this arrest does not portray Reed’s true character but for every bad decision, there are consequences and in this case, the consequences for Reed are not being able to be a part of the Maryland Terrapin basketball team.
