Travis Boyd & Liam O’Brien steal the show in Laval, Bears win 6-3!
The Hershey Bears played The Laval Rockets for the first time in franchise history on Friday night, and they did not disappoint. Travis Boyd would get his eleventh, twelth, third, and fourteenth goal of the season, you heard right, four goals in one game. Hershey would finish the night with their first on the road win since the beginning of 2018.
Liam O’Brien would score first with a short handed goal at 12:16 in the first. As the Bears went on the power play after a Laval slashing call, Connor Hobbs would take advantage and find Travis Boyd in front of the net to make it 2-0 with less than a minute left in play.
In the middle period, Laval would get on the board at 8:21 with a goal from Adam Cracknell, but it wouldn’t take long for Hershey to bring their lead to two goals when less than a minute and a half later Joe Whitney would find Travis Boyd yet again, and Boyd would make it 3-1. Before the period would end Antoine Waked would sail one past Vanecek making it 3-2 headed into the second intermission.
Travis Boyd would get a hat trick at 8:26 in the third to bring the Bears lead to 4-2. Boyd would get his fourth goal of the game less than seven minutes later at 15:39 and the Bears would widen there gap to three goals making it 5-2. This marked the first game of the season for a Hershey Bear to score four goals in one game. The last Hershey Bear to accomplish this was almost a year ago in March, with former bear Paul Carey scoring four goals against Hartford.
Liam O’Brien got his second short hand goal of the game, and eleventh of the season, bringing him to a career high in goals for 2018. With the score at 6-2, Laval would get one more on the board with Luc-Olivier Blain scoring at 18:58 to make the final matchup a 6-3 win for Hershey.
Hershey outshot Laval 27-20. This brings Hershey’s record 20-25-3-4. They will continue on the road in Canada playing the Belleville Senators. Puck drops at 7pm and can be heard on various news media apps.
