Towson Football Preview: North Dakota State

Today’s matchup is a rematch of the 2013 FCS National Championship game. The Bison prevailed 35-7 as they continued their reign of the FCS. Former Baltimore Ravens runningback Terrance West scored a touchdown for the Tigers. The Tigers had a good chance to take the lead in that game but then NDSU scored and took the lead and never looked back. Flash forward to 2021 and both teams have gone in different directions. The Tigers have been up and down while the Bison have captured a few more National Championships along the way.

The Tigers come into the matchup with a 1-1 record, a win over Morgan State (34-10) and a loss to New Hampshire (14-26). They are led on offense by QB’s Chris Furgeson and Jeff Miller. Having a 2 QB system is a good weapon to have but normal when you have 2 QB’s you have 0. Darian Street is the leading receiver and will look to have a big game for the Tigers if they want to knock off the the Bison. The leading rusher for the Tigers is Jerry Howard Jr, who has 142 yards rushing but will need to have a big day to keep the offense going. On defense they are led by S.J Brown, Keyvone Burton and Christian Dixon.

NDSU comes in with a 2-0 record with wins over Albany and Valparaiso respectively. Their offense is led by Quincy Patterson, a quarterback transfer from Virginia Tech. He’s a dual threat qb, which will be a tough task for Towson’s defense. Their leading rusher is Dominic Gonnella, who has 145 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns already on the season. The receiving corps is led by Christian Watson, who can take it over the top for the Bison. Their defense has been awesome this year allowing only 6 points through 2 games. They’re defense has a lot of play makers and have forced 3 fumbles, 13 tackles for loss, and 3 interceptions

Keys to the game for Towson:

-Keep the offense on the field by having long sustained drives. The will have to score when they can and not come up empty

-Create turnovers and make big plays on defense. Make NDSU uncomfortable on offense.

It should be an interesting rematch and hopefully Towson comes out on top.
