Tom Wilson Suspended three Games for “Illegal” Hit

Tom Wilson has been suspended the next three games in the 2018 NHL Playoffs for an illegal check to the head of Zach Aston-Reese. Aston-Reese suffered a broken jaw and a concussion in the hit. Wilson was suspended twice in the preseason this year. The NHL Department of Player Safety handed down this suspension this evening. The injuries and the fact that Wilson is a repeat offender are the reasons for the suspension. Wilson will next be available to play in Game 7 of this series if necessary.

Barry Trotz will have to change up the lines for the next few games. The likely replacement for Wilson will be Travis Boyd. Trotz could also look to rookie Shane Gersich or recently called up Nathan Walker, as replacements as well.

This ruling is definitely controversial and is going to put the NHL Department of Player Safety in a tight spot for future cases.

Game four is set for Thursday night at 7pm in Pittsburgh.
