Tigers Take On The Citadel in 50th Anniversary Season Home Opener

The #25 ranked Towson Tigers (2-1, 1-0) return home to play their Home Opener against The Citadel (1-2, 1-2 SoCon) this Saturday at Johnny Unitas Stadium. It has been an exciting two weeks around the Towson University facility as the Tigers earned their first national ranking in football since 2014 after their 45-35 upset victory over Villanova.

As part of the football programs 50th anniversary, Towson will dawn some very nice throwback uniforms for Saturdays game. Check out the video below that the Towson Football twitter account put together!

One more look at the uniforms:

Personally, that makes me super excited for the game!

The Towson program established its first team in 1969. They have won 272 games since its beginning under four total head coaches. In its history, Towson has been a 2-time national runner-up, (1976, 2013), two CAA titles (2011, 2012) and 11 seasons, across Division III, II and I-AA (FCS), finishing in the top-26 nationally.

This will between the Tigers and The Citadel who are based in South Carolina. Towson last took on a team from the Southern Conference opponent in 2006, when they played Elon before Elon switched conferences.

All-time, the Tigers are 38-11 in home openers, having won their last three and 12 of its previous 13.  Under head coach Rob Ambrose, Towson is 8-1 in home openers.

My Prediction: Towson should be fully rested since they are coming off their bye week, and playing in front of a packed Johnny Unitas Stadium should lead to some extra motivation. Tom Flacco, the #1 QB in the CAA in passing yards a game with 303.3 and total offense with 338 yards a contest, is in store for another great performance. He, and his top receiving target Shane Leatherbury should be able to lead the no-huddle Tiger offense to some big scores early. Tigers win 27-10.
