Tigers Outlast Bears in OT, Run Winning Streak to Nine

TOWSON, MD – The Towson Tigers (9-1) came away with a gut wrenching overtime victory against the cross town rival, Morgan State Bears (4-5), in “The Battle for Greater Baltimore”. There was an electric atmosphere in SECU Arena as the Tigers returned home after a victorious trip to Ireland. The announced attendance was about 2,500 which is one of the largest crowds Towson has drawn in many years.

As for the game, the Tigers were lead by sophomore guard Zane Martin who has really shown his growth as a scoring threat. Martin scored 25 points, including a game tying 3 pointer with 8.1 seconds left on the clock.

Towson had a comfortable lead over Morgan State throughout most of the game but faltered down the final nine minutes, not converting a single field goal and only scoring off of free throws. Eddie Kieth II broke that trend when he drilled a three with under three minutes to go. He followed that up with a huge blocked dunk on the defensive end.

In Overtime, Deshaun Morman hit a three pointer and from that point on the Tigers never trailed.

Up Next: Towson stays at home to take on another cross town rival in the UMBC Retrievers (6-4) of the America East Conference. Tip-off is at 2:00 PM at SECU Arena.
