The Commanders Upset The Packers!!

The Commanders beat the Packers 23-21. This was a team win for the Commanders today. The defense held the Packers to 0-6 on third downs. The offense controlled the ball in the second half of the game. And the punt team forced another turnover. Also the team didn’t have any mental errors like they did against the Bears last week. I’m still unsure how good this team is, but what I do know is they are now one win away from being .500.

Offense

The offense started very slow and looked bad the entire first quarter. Heinicke started the game 1 for 7 and threw a pick six. After the interception he played a lot better and was more on time with his throws. On both of Heinicke’s touchdowns the ball was placed in the perfect spot for his receiver to catch the ball. Also Heinicke only took one sack today, which kept the offense on schedule.

The offense controlled the ball in the second half today. They had the ball for almost 20 minutes in the second half. This kept Aaron Rodgers on the sideline and wore out the Packers defense. Also on three of the four drives in the second half the Commanders scored points on. This made the Packers on dimensional on offense, since they were down multiple possessions late in the game.

Finally the running attacked looked great today. I liked the way they used Gibson, Robinson, and Samuel today in the run game. They kept Gibson and Robinson fresh throughout the game, which helped in the fourth quarter. They ran for 166 yards today and averaged 4.4 yards per carry. If they can do this the rest of the season they have something that travels and will help win games.

Defense

The defense played its best game all season. They only gave up 14 points and only allowed 232 total yards. The defense also only gave up one play of 20+ yards, but it was a touchdown from Rodgers to Jones. I believe this is the first time all season that the defense didn’t give up multiple 20+ yard plays. I do believe that Rodgers thumb injury is worse than he says and is affecting his play. He had guys open a few times today where he just missed the throw.

Holding Rodgers to 0-6 on third down might be the most impressive thing. Rodgers had never been held to zero third down conversions before today. He did have a couple of drops on third down, but throws weren’t perfect either. This shows me that either something is wrong with Rodgers or he isn’t on the same page with his receivers.

Wrap up

The Commanders take on the Colts next week in Indy at 4:25 on Fox. The Colts lost to the Titans today 19-10 and fell to 3-3-1. The Colts had three turnovers today, which the titans scored 10 points off of. If the Commanders play like they did today they should win next week. That would mean the Commanders would improve to 4-4 and somehow still have a chance at the last wild card spot.
