Baltimore Orioles DH Wilson Betemit had a bad fall yesterday and the Orioles were thinking the worst as his knee bent.  According to the Orioles, Betemit has a PCL strain and will miss 6-8 weeks.  Betemit was feared to have a season ending injury so a 6-8 week rehab without surgery is lucky.

Betemit hit 12 home runs for the Orioles last season, he only played 102 games because of injury last year.  The Orioles have many options to fill Betemit’s spot on the roster while he is on the DL.  Steve Pearce and Conor Jackson  have played lights out in the spring.

Here are some tweets from Orioles beat reporter Brittany Ghiroli detailing Betemit’s injury and rehab.

The Baltimore Orioles have activated Wilson Betemit from the disabled and recalled three players for their first round of September call-ups.  Xavier Avery, Steve Tolleson and Luis Exposito are the players that have been recalled.

Avery is a speedy outfielder who has seen a few rounds with the Orioles. Tolleson is a versital verteran infielder who has been up and down between the Orioles and Norfolk all season. Exposito will be the Orioles third catcher to help give Wieters some more games at DH.

Avery has been cool in Norfolk but his speed will be valuable for the Orioles.

The Baltimore Orioles have placed infielder Wilson Betemit on the disabled list with a wrist injury. Betemit was the Orioles third baseman for most of the season until Manny Machado replaced him. Betemit has also seen time at first base and hit .264 with 12 home runs.

Joe Mahoney is a first baseman and was called up for a few games earlier this season. Mahoney has spent most of his time with the Norfolk Tides and has batted .263 with nine home runs for the Tides.

Here is a tweet from Luke Jones confirming the roster move.

The Baltimore Orioles have signed Wilson Betemit to a two-year contract with a pending option, according to Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun. Betemit is an infielder who will most likely see action as a DH.  Betemit has primarily played at third base and shortstop.

Betemit is a career .269 hitter and is 30 years old. Betemit is not a power hitter, in nine major league seasons he only has 63 home runs. He will provide depth for the Orioles who who lack a stable DH.

Here is Encina’s tweet detailing the deal.
