Ravens trade McClain to Cowboys

The Baltimore Ravens have traded Rolando McClain and a seventh-round 2015 draft pick to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a sixth-round 2015 draft pick.  If you remember, McClain has retired twice since the Ravens have signed him and has never played in a game.  McClain came out of retirement earlier this offseason only to retire again a few days later, McClain’s workout was not impressive.

I have covered the McClain story the entire time and I think it is glad that he is out of the Ravens organization, clearly he did not want to be here.  McClain is a headcase and has always had problems off the field and would not have fit in well in the Ravens locker room. Rolando McClain retires again

Rolando McClain.JPGThe Baltimore Ravens were going to give Rolando McClain another chance to play football, they just reinstated him so he would be eligible to workout with the team.  McClain told Seth Wickersham tweeted that McClain told him he was done with football.

This is a real surprise as McClain was just getting back into football and seemed to be a full go.  It sounds like McClain never enjoyed football or never wanted to play for the Ravens.  McClain is only 24 years old, so he is very young for someone who has already retired twice.

The Ravens never counted on McClain and were not impressed by McClain’s work out. McClain gave up on his workout according to several reporters.

Rolando McClain reinstated by Ravens

About a week ago I wrote about Rolando McClain coming out of retirement.   Earlier this week McClain had his first workout with the Baltimore Ravens and according to reports it did not go well.

Still the Baltimore Ravens have reinstated McClain from the reserve/retired list, according to Jeff Zrebiec.  I think the Ravens should still give McClain a shot, he has a lot of rust to knock off.

Reinstating McClain gives the Ravens more time to decide on what to do with it.  Reinstating McClain also will allow him to do the offseason workouts with the Ravens.

Rolando McClain plans on coming out of retirement

Rolando McClain.JPGLast season the Baltimore Ravens signed Rolando McClain to a one-year contract. My thoughts on that transaction can all be found here and this was the Ravens press release on him. Before McClain even put on a Ravens jersey he got in more trouble and retired from football at the age of 23.  Now McClain is planning on coming out of retirement.

McClain needed to get his head right and mature off the field.  There is no questioning that McClain can play football, he had 244 career tackles before retiring.  The Ravens would still hold McClain’s rights so he could be a huge player for the Ravens who are light at middle linebacker.
