The Washington Capitals were a better defensive corps away from making the clubs seventh straight trip to the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season. Instead, the Caps had to sit out the 2013-2014 playoffs and saw the organizations second longest playoff streak end.

The defense was atrocious and the penalty kill was embarrassingly bad.

AHL Hockey Should Come to Baltimore

That picture on the left, a heated rivalry between the Rochester Americans(Amerks) and the Toronto Marlies is what a future AHL game could be like, with a team placed in Baltimore. It should be said however, that there are no current plans to relocate an AHL team to Baltimore.

Capitals Player Profile: Aaron Volpatti

The 29 year old left-winger was signed by the Capitals during free agency in 2012. He was then resigned by the Caps in 2013 to a two year contract that will pay him $575,000 a season. He will become an unrestricted free agent next July if he is not resigned. Volpatti, a native of Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada has made a career by his tough play and willingness to fight.
