The Baltimore Orioles swept the Detroit Tigers, and, in doing so, advanced to the American League Championship Series for the fist time since 1997.

1997 was the last time the Orioles won a playoff series as well.

It was also manager Buck Showalter’s first playoff series win in four tries. He previously lost in the ALDS in 1995 (Yankees), 1999 (Diamondbacks) and 2012  (Orioles).

Orioles dominate Tigers 12-3

Orioles LogoIt is only one game, but wow what a game. No doubt the Detroit Tigers held the edge in national name recognition but the fans in Baltimore knew all along that their Birds held the advantage between the lines, where it counts. Now every baseball fan knows too. Whenever the slate gets wiped clean and the records are thrown out the hope for all fans is that their team will come out and make a statement like what the Orioles did in Baltimore tonight. Jeter's special moment; Orioles headed to the playoffs

Lost in all that history last night was the incredible comeback the champion Orioles made last night in the ninth inning. All but left for dead, the O’s were down 5-2 with three outs to go in the ninth. And Yankees closer, David Robertson would have  an easy save.
