The 27 year old backup goaltender was signed by the Capitals on July 1st, 2014 to a two year contract that will pay him $950,000 a season.Peters, a native of Blythe, Onterio, Canada has made a career with the Carolina Hurricanes, serving as their backgup goaltender and playing a few games in the AHL since being drafted 38th overall in 2004. Capitals sign Peters Washington Capitals made a bunch of roster moves yesterday and one that I did not have a chance to write about was the Justin Peters signing. Peters signed a two-year $1.9 million dollar contract yesterday with the Capitals. Peters will likely be the Capitals backup goalie, or at least compete to be the backup.

Goaltending and defense has been a struggle for the Capitals but they are putting all their resources to fixing that. The Capitals have signed Brooks Orpik and Matt Niskanen to big contracts, they will both greatly boost the Caps defense.
