No Gateway for Nats in St. Louis

Blame it on the rain?  Counting games before the All-Star break, the Washington Nationals dealt with seven rain delays in eleven 11 games. Still, it was a disappointing start to the de facto second half of the season for the Nats.  Washington has played well in series against other struggling teams on the road.  The three-game set in St. Louis was not one of them.

Nats Take Mets to SplitTown

The Washington Nationals earned an important four game split against the New York Mets yesterday. After seven games versus the Mets, the Nats are 4-3. The two clubs won’t face each other again until a four-game set at Citi Field in late July. The Mets and Nats finish the 13-game season series in DC for two games during the first week of September.
According to FanGraphs, the Nats are projected to finish the season 68-94. That doesn’t sound great, but that’s a whopping 13-game improvement from 107 losses last season. My guess is that the Nats will get to at least seventy wins. With a current winning percentage of .439, Washington is on pace for 71 wins.

Nats Expedite Series Win Over Cubs

The Washington Nationals won the final game of a home series with the Chicago Cubs in less than two hours.  The Nats won the last three games of the four-game set and clinched their third series victory out of their last four.

Nats Take Two of Three at Rival Mets

In the last week, the Washington Nationals won two straight road series versus good teams (Twins, Mets). In taking the first two games of each series the Nats finished a very productive road trip at 4-2. The Nats road record now stands at 7-6. If those numbers sound good, the team’s quality of play was even better. The National League leading Pittsburgh Pirates (18-8) roll into town for a three-game set over the weekend.

Nationals lose opening series to Atlanta

The Washington Nationals opened the 2023 season by dropping their first two games, but they were able to win the last of the three home games versus the Atlanta Braves. During those first two losses, three unsettling developments involved the number three.
