Today, the Capitals revealed their 2015 Winter Classic Jersey at Nationals Park during a noon press event.

The 2015 Bridgestone Winter Classic between the Washington Capitals and the Chicago Blackhawks will take place on January 1st, 2015 and I’ve made my thoughts about the Winter Classic previously known.

AHL Hockey Should Come to Baltimore

That picture on the left, a heated rivalry between the Rochester Americans(Amerks) and the Toronto Marlies is what a future AHL game could be like, with a team placed in Baltimore. It should be said however, that there are no current plans to relocate an AHL team to Baltimore.

Capitals Player Profile: Aaron Volpatti

The 29 year old left-winger was signed by the Capitals during free agency in 2012. He was then resigned by the Caps in 2013 to a two year contract that will pay him $575,000 a season. He will become an unrestricted free agent next July if he is not resigned. Volpatti, a native of Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada has made a career by his tough play and willingness to fight.

Googling his name reveals numerous videos of him engaging in intense battles with numerous Capitals foes. The 27 year old backup goaltender was signed by the Capitals on July 1st, 2014 to a two year contract that will pay him $950,000 a season.Peters, a native of Blythe, Onterio, Canada has made a career with the Carolina Hurricanes, serving as their backgup goaltender and playing a few games in the AHL since being drafted 38th overall in 2004. At around 10:30am Eastern Standard Time, R-Sport posted an article in Russian that Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin and his fiancee Maria Kirilenko have ended their engagement.

Alex Ovechkin and Maria Kirilenko first met at the US Open in 2011. The Capitals superstar was there for a preseason media gathering with a few other NHL stars and scored some free tickets to the US Open. He eventually wondered over to a practice court where Kirilenko and her doubles partner, Nadia Petrova were practicing. All three of them, being Russian, struck up a conversation at the practice court and Ovechkin exchanged numbers with Maria Kirilenko. Ovechkin attended Kirilenko’s semifinal match, which she and Petrova lost.

Chris Conner was signed by the Capitals during “Free Agent Frenzy” on July 1st, 2014. He inked a one year $550,000/$250,000 NHL/AHL deal. Conner has previously played for the Penguins, Coyotes, Red Wings and the Stars. He was an undrafted free agent signee of the Dallas Stars on July 13th, 2006. Conners played college hockey in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for the Michigan Tech Huskies from 2002-2006.

The large crowd that showed up for today’s final scrimmage and Fan Fest saw no shortage of goals which mostly came at the expense of the Capitals top young talent.

Unlike the previous two scrimmages, the two best players in Jakub Vrana and Andre Burakovsky did not wow the crowd. The center and right wing duo, which had previously been the two best players in the scrimmages the last two days, had a performance they will likely want to put past them.
