Stephen Strasburg, Anthony Rendon, and Juan Soto lead the way to shut out Marlins in a 7-0 win; recap: 8/31/2019

The Washington Nationals completed a 7-0 shutout victory against the Miami Marlins tonight, giving the team a 76-58 record. Stephen Strasburg threw a phenomenal eight innings that yielded only two hits and fourteen strikeouts.; and Tanner Rainey helped complete the job with a no-hit ninth inning that ended with one walk and three strikeouts.

In the first inning, Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto hit back-to-back solo home runs to give the Nats a 2-0 lead from the start, and in the second, Strasburg hit an RBI single to score Kurt Suzuki. In the third, Soto hit an RBI double to score Rendon, and shortly after, Suzuki hit a two-run home run. Finally, in the eighth, Rendon hit another solo home run to secure the seven-run victory while Strasburg and Rainey worked to keep the Marlins’ bats quiet all night.

Tomorrow, Patrick Corbin is slated to start against Caleb Smith for the series finale and the sweep. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. ET.
