Spalding men’s hockey wins MIAA A Conference Championship for second consecutive year

The Archbishop Spalding men’s varsity ice hockey team beat Mount St. Joseph 5-2 Thursday night to win their second consecutive MIAA A Conference Championship. The Spalding Cavaliers had control the entire game and finished out with the win.

Last year the Cavilers beat Mount St. Joseph 4 to 1 for their first title since 2015. The Championship game was played at Piney Orchard Ice Arena.

Senior Evan Donnolly had a hat trick for the Cavaliers. Junior goaltender Collin Berke had 18 saves helping the Cavaliers to victory. Frank Megan and Micheal Urgo also provided goals for the Cavaliers.

As an alum of the Spalding hockey team I am proud of the Cavaliers. I graduated in 2007 from Spalding and back when I played our team used to get destroyed by Mount St. Joseph.

Playing Mount. St. Joseph was often like a FCS football team playing a FBS school. Several times our team lost by the mercy rule which was a ten goal advantage.

The times have changed however and Spalding ice hockey is on top. Rob Trantin is a great coach for Spalding and his record shows it.

Check out this awesome goal by Megan.
