Sowers Leads Princeton To A Convincing Win Over Johns Hopkins

Michael Sowers continued his hot start with two goals and seven assists in Princeton defeated Johns Hopkins 18-11 in New Jersey. He now has 41 points in his first four games of the season for the 4-0 Tigers. Connor McCarthy (5 goals), Alexander Vardaro (4 goals) and Chris Brown ( 2 goals) were the other multi-goal scorers for the winners. Princeton won ground balls 34-31 and was 12-13 on clears.

Joey Epstein continued his recovery from a knee injury with 2 goals and 2 assists for Hopkins. Owen Murphy (3 goals) and Evan Zinn (2 goals) were the other multi-goal scorers. The Blue Jays won the face-off battle 21-12 and were 4-5 on extra man but the offense still struggled to score goals. They scored three of the last four goals to make the score seem closer than it was. Princeton outscored them 5-2 in the first and third quarters to create separation. Ryan Darby was pulled after making 5 saves on 19 shots on goal.

It gets no easier for 1-3 Johns Hopkins with #3 Syracuse headed to Homewood Field next Saturday. The Orange will gain a spot in next week’s poll after top ranked Yale was upset by UMASS. They process a loaded offense led by Brendan Curry, Chase Scanlon and Tucker Dordevic. On the defensive side Drake Porter is allowing 9.81 goals a game and saving at a 56% clip. Gametime is 1pm.
