Southern Maryland Blue Crabs Season Update

A little over a month into the season, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs sit at 10-19. The Blue Crabs are an independent league baseball team who play in Waldorf, Maryland at Regency Furniture Stadium.

The independent leagues are an alternative to minor league ball, where players who play typically at a AA or AAA level play unaffiliated with Major League teams and look to sign contracts to Major League ball clubs. The independent league that the Blue Crabs play in is called the Atlantic League, and it consists of the Blue Crabs, the Lancaster Barnstormers, the Long Island Ducks, the New Britain Bees, the Somerset Patriots, the Sugar Land Skeeters, and the York Revolution.

The Blue Crabs offensive leaders are Teodoro Martinez, who is hitting .411, and Cory Vaughn who leads the team with five home runs. In terms of pitching, the Blue Crabs are led by Sam Runion who has a 1.38 ERA over 14 games this year.

On May 30, the Blue Crabs lost to the Revolution 7-5. Yesterday’s game was postponed due to rain. Today, they will face the Barnstormers away at 6:35 PM.
