Should the Orioles bring back Jim Johnson?

File:Jim Johnson.jpgNow that the Oakland Athletics have officially released Jim Johnson rumors have it that the Baltimore Orioles are interested in bringing him back.  Johnson has had a horrible season this year and he is now a free agent.  If the Orioles bring back Johnson it will likely be on a minor league deal and he would likely spend time in triple-A Norfolk.   A 7.14 era will not get Johnson a Major League contract anywhere.  For more on Johnson and his release read this story

Johnson the long-time Orioles reliever has kept a close connection with the Orioles and is still well respected in the Orioles club house.  Days of being a closer are likely done for Johnson but I could see him being a long reliever.

I would not mind seeing Johnson at Norfolk, he is a good team guy and could mentor some young players.  Johnson might want to consider taking the year off and resting his arm and getting his mind right.

Johnson needs to regain his confidence before pitching in the majors again.  I would like to see Johnson back in an Orioles uniform somewhere down the line because he has given his heart and soul to the Orioles organization and has been a trooper for them.

If Johnson is set on pitching this season a minor league deal never hurt anyone.  Johnson could still provide some depth in the bullpen.
