Shorebirds set franchise wins record; Adley arrives

History was made last night in Salisbury, MD, as the Northern Division First Half Champion Delmarva Shorebirds tallied their 84th win of the year, setting a franchise record for most wins in a single season.

The “Baby Birds” emerged victorious over the Greensboro Grasshoppers 6-5, in what was a close game until the very last pitch.

The Shorebirds secured their win with clutch RBI hits from CF Nick Horvath and RF Johnny Rizer, along with sneaky base running by SS Adam Hall to score the winning run off a wild pitch in the eighth inning.

Delmarva already clinched playoff birth by winning the first half of their season, and to make things better for the team, they have some backup coming just in time.

Orioles No. 1 overall pick, catcher Adley Rutschman, will join the playoff-bound Shorebirds Wednesday night.

In what has been a short but successful tenure with the Orioles organization, the reigning Golden Spikes Award winner was officially promoted Tuesday afternoon.

When Rutschman takes the field for the Shorebirds, he will be the highest-ever draft choice to play at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Former No. 3 overall draft pick, Manny Machado, who played for the Shorebirds in 2011, is the current record-holder.

For those who are having trouble trusting the process of the Orioles rebuild, you have a lot to look forward to in the near future.

Congratulations to both the Delmarva Shorebirds and Adley Rutschman!
