Sam Howell will start in the regular season finale

Now that the Washington Commanders have been eliminated from the playoffs, Sam Howell will get his first NFL start.  This is the right decision to have the rookie get some reps against a good Dallas defense.  The only problem is it was not Rivera’s first decision.  He was going to start Heinicke and then let Howell finish the game.  It was not until Heinicke spoke up and said Howell should get the start.  This shows real leadership ability by Heinicke and even more of a reason why he should have started last week against the Browns.

Now for Sam Howell.  He has really good arm talent and threw the fastest ball at 59 mph at the NFL combine. In his final year at North Carolina he threw for 3056 yards with 24 touchdowns. He was also mobile as well rushing for 828 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was expected to go number one overall after his sophomore season, but a down junior season made him slip in the draft. The biggest thing I am looking for on Sunday is his decision making abilities and his escape ability.  Going up against a good defensive line and having a terrible O-line could lead to some problems Sunday.  Hopefully the Cowboys rest some guys after halftime, so Howell can show off more of his skills in the second half.
