Salisbury Cruises By Christopher Newport Plus Loyola Sinks Navy And Other Scores

Thanks to ten seniors taking their extra year of eligibility the Salisbury men’s lacrosse team was top ranked in all of the preseason polls. The Gulls lost their first game of the season 10-8 at Lynchburg. It should be noted they were without a couple key contributors including Brett Malamphy (AA FOGO) due to Covid protocols and injuries. Since that game Salisbury has been on a mission to reestablish their dominance. The latest team to feel that was fifth ranked Christopher Newport. The Captains (6-2) fell 25-12 at Sea Gull Stadium to the second ranked Sea Gulls.

Jarrett Bromwell finished with seven goals and two assists including a couple amazing individual efforts. The attack team of Griffin Moroney, Josh Melton and Cross Ferrara combined for 10 goals and 10 assists. Only 13 of Salisbury’s 45 shots weren’t goals or saves. St Mary’s College comes to Salisbury for a Wednesday 4pm start before the rematch between these two teams on March 14th at CNU.

In Annapolis Bailey Savio won 19 of 28 face-offs to help Loyola beat Navy 14-10. Kevin Lindley finished with three goals and two assists for Loyola (5-3) while Joey Kamish added 2 and 2. The Hounds led 8-2 at halftime. Navy stayed within shouting distance thanks to 20 Loyola turnovers. Christian Daniel had a hat trick for Navy including his 100th point in a Navy uniform. Patrick Skalniak also had a hat trick and dished out two assists for the Midshipmen. Navy takes it’s 3-1 record to Lehigh next Saturday while Loyola heads home to host Army West Point next Saturday at 1pm on CBSSN. Navy gets a rematch in Baltimore on April 17th.

In other local scores Towson (3-6) lost a close game 8-7 at Hofstra while UMBC (5-1) beat Vermont 10-8. The Retrievers head to Albany for a big America East game next Sunday while Towson heads home to play Fairfield before a rematch with Hofstra on April 13th. Johns Hopkins hosts Michigan tomorrow at noon on ESPNU.
