Rodriguez named SAL Pitcher of the Week

The Baltimore Orioles look like they made a good decision when they drafted right-handed pitcher Grayson Rodriguez 11th overall in the 2018 MLB First-Year Player Draft. It has been announced that Rodriguez has been named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for the extended season opening week of April 4-14.

Rodriguez, 19, won both of his starts on April 5 and April 12, giving up zero runs in either appearance. He combined to give up three hits, all singles, and five walks. But what got him Player of the Week honors was his astounding 20 strikeouts in an impressive 11 innings of work. Rodriguez is one of five starters with a 0.00 ERA in the first 11 games of the season and is ranked second in strikeouts (20) and opponent batting average (0.86).

This is the first career weekly award for the Orioles fifth-ranked prospect. Fans can certainly expect many more from this young man in his first full major league season with the Delmarva Shorebirds!
