Redskins Defense Suffering From Injuries

Several key Redskins’ defensive players have went down with injury the past few weeks. The two most notable were star cornerback Josh Norman (fractured rib) in week four and rookie defensive lineman Jonathan Allen in week six this past Sunday.

Norman missed week six vs. the 49ers, but Jay Gruden has announced that he will be evaluated mid-week for their important upcoming matchup vs. the Eagles. Reports had originally announced Norman out for at least four weeks.

After suffering a Lisfranc (foot) injury, Allen is expected to miss 3-4 weeks. He will be replaced by second year Anthony Lanier, who was originally an undrafted free agent before being signed by the Redskins. The Redskins consider Lanier to be a fine option, but he lacks the spark that Allen added to the line.

In addition to stars Norman and Allen, the Redskins defense has had several other recent injuries, including safeties DeAngelo Hall, Deshazor Everett, Montae Nicholson, and Stefan McClure, and cornerback Bashaud Breeland. The beat-up secondary will likely have a hard time against the red hot Carson Wentz (7 TDs over the past two weeks) this Monday in Philadelphia.
