Hershey, PA- Sunday’s Hershey Bears game at the Giant Center was filled with fans carrying teddy bears that would later be donated for the WGAL and Community Aid Teddy Bear Toss. Gage Quinney would score first for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at 2:12 in the first. This would ruin a long streak of the bears scoring the teddy bear toss goal first. However Daniel Sprong would find the back of the net at 11:18 giving the Penguins the 2-0 lead going into the second period. This goal to bears fans made things look worse as now the teddy bear toss goal wouldn’t tie or give the bear a lead.

It would be the Hershey Bears Liam O’Brien that would score the first goal for Hershey at 13:27 in the second period. Teddy bears galore started raining onto the ice in celebration. Hampus Gustafsson and Dustin Gazley would both tally an assist on the Teddy Bear Toss play. After a short break for teddy bear collection the game resumed.

Liam O’Brien scored his second goal of the game and sixth of the season on a delayed penalty at 8:49 to tie the game, assisted by Chris Bourque and Aaron Ness. Hershey took the lead just five minutes later at 13:50 in the period when Jonas Siegenthaler would score his second goal of the weekend making it 3-0. Dustin Gazley got his second point in the game as he and Colby Williams gained an assist on the play. However, less than a minute later at 14:45 Tom Sestito would tie up the game and Hershey would see another Overtime at home.

It didn’t take long when just over a minute into Overtime Chris Bourque would blast a shot from the left point and score the game winning goal at 1:15 in the period. Aaron Ness and Jermey Langlois would get a point each assisting on the goal as the bears win 4-3 in OT.

Hershey would later announce that fans broke team record for the annual Teddy Bear Toss at Giant Center, collecting 25,017 items to donate this season. The bears will be back in Lehigh Valley this Friday for yet another rival matchup against the Phantoms. Puck drops at 7 p.m.  last time in Lehigh was unkind for the bears as they dropped the game 7-2. Teddy Bear Toss Photos courtesy of Emily Fontanella.
