Recap: Wizards lose to Heat 113-112

The Washington Wizards opened their 2018-2019 season in disappointing fashion, losing to the Miami Heat 113-112 on a game winning layup by Kelly Olynyk.

The Wizards led for most of the game but it remained close throughout. John Wall finished with 26 points and 9 assists for the Wizards and was their best player on the night. Bradley Beal had 20 points in only 27 minutes.

The Heat were led in scoring by Josh Richardson with 28, Rodney McGruder also had a big game with 20 points.

The Wizards held a 112-111 lead with six seconds left before Dwayne Wade missed a fade away jumper, only for Olynyk to get the rebound and put it back in with .2 seconds left and put the dagger in the heart of the Wizards. It seems important to note that Markieff Morris made no attempt to box out Olynyk on the play.

All in all, it was a disappointing loss for the Wizards to take on the season opener, especially with the Heat on a back to back.  There were some positives to take away but Otto Porter (9 points) needs to get more involved and the bench needs to step up their production.

The Wizards take on the Raptors on Saturday and will look to get their first win of the season.
