Recap: Orioles fall to Red Sox 4-0

The Baltimore Orioles were defeated by the Boston Red Sox by a score of 4-0 on April 14th, 2019. Prior to this, the Orioles dropped game one of the four game set to Boston by a score of 6-4, and were victorious in game two by a score of 9-5. As of now, the Orioles hold at a 6-10 record, standing at third place in the A.L. East Division. Orioles hurler John Means took the loss today, as he threw five innings, gave up four hits, let up one earned run, let one batter walk, and struck out three batters.

To summarize, most of today’s contest was a pitchers duel, as only four total runs were scored between the two teams and 19 strikeouts were handed out. However, there was some scoring as in the bottom of the fourth, Xander Bogaerts of the Red Sox hit a sacrifice fly to score Steve Pearce(former Oriole) to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead. Afterward, in the bottom of the 8th, once again Xander Bogaerts accounted for the scoring, hitting a three-run home run to score Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez, which would give the Red Sox a 4-0 win.

Next, the Orioles will take on the Red Sox in the final game of the four game set at 11:05 a.m.(EST) on April 15th, 2019 on Jackie Robinson day, respectively. The pitching matchup for tomorrow’s game is scheduled to be RHP Dan Straily(0-1, 19.29 ERA) facing off against Hector Velázquez(0-0, 2.79 ERA). In conclusion, the Orioles bats fell flat, but they’ll look to split the series against the Red Sox, and then travel to St. Petersburg, Florida, to take on the Tampa Bay Rays in a three game series before returning home to Oriole Park at Camden Yards to take on the Minnesota Twins in a three game set.
