Recap: Orioles Fall Apart In Loss To Mets 16-5

The Baltimore Orioles were defeated by the New York Mets by a score of 16-5 on August 15th, 2018. Now, the Orioles record moves down to 36-85, while the Mets stand at 51-67. Overall, the Mets offense was too much for the Orioles as they were not able to match the obscure 16 runs put on the board by New York.

To recap, Orioles starting pitcher, Dylan Bundy, went 5 1/3 innings, gave up 11 hits, let 7 runs get by him, and struck out 5 batters to bring his ERA to 4.99, as he took the loss to bring his record to 7-11 as well. Moreover, through the game, the Mets hit 3 home runs, including a grand slam to completely take control of the game. For example, in the top of the 6th, catcher, Kevin Plawecki, hit the lone grand slam of the game to give the Mets a 14-1 lead. After piling on runs, the Mets used reliever Drew Smith to close out the game.

Essentially, the Orioles couldn’t seem to find ways to pitch around opposing hitters that drove in several RBI’s. Lastly, the Birds will travel to play against the Cleveland Indians in three game series beginning on August 17th. The pitching matchup is scheduled to be RHP David Hess(2-6, 6.25 ERA) facing off against RHP Carlos Carrasco(14-6, 3.50 ERA).
