Recap: Orioles defeat Yankees 7-5, win series

The Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees by a score of 7-5 on March 31st, 2019. The newest Baltimore skipper, Brandon Hyde, won his first series as a manager today. Currently, the Orioles stand at a 2-1 win-loss record, while the rival Yankees dropped to 1-2 after the loss. Baltimore hurler Dylan Bundy threw 3.2 innings, struck out seven batters, gave up three earned runs, walked five batters, and gave up two hits.

The Orioles opened the scoring in the top of the first when Renato Nunez hit a three-run home run to give the Orioles a 3-0 lead early in the game. Afterward, in the top of the third, Trey Mancini of Baltimore homered to center field to extend the Orioles lead to 4-0. However, the Yankees would attempt to make a comeback, as they scored three unanswered runs in the bottom of the fourth. Through the 7th, the Orioles and Yankees would go back and forth in scoring, and it would be 5-3 with Baltimore in the lead. In the top of the eighth, Joey Rickard broke open the score of the game as he hit a two-run home run(scoring Renato Nunez) to make it 7-4. In the bottom of the ninth, New York would go on to score on a run, but it would simply not be enough as Paul Fry closed out the game to give the Orioles a 7-4 win.

Next, the Orioles will travel to Toronto to take on the Blue Jays in a three game set, then they will go home to begin a three game series and host their respective Opening Day against the Yankees. Baltimore hurler David Hess will take the mound for the Orioles, and he will face off against Sean Reid-Foley of Toronto. On the side of things, the Yankees will stay home and take on the Detroit Tigers in a three game series.
