Recap: Nationals defeat Phillies 10-8

The Washington Nationals held off the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday evening in regular season action. The Nats’ record currently stands at 14-18. The Phillies drop to 18-14.

Patrick Corbin pitched a very strong six innings for Washington. Corbin allowed six hits and six strikeouts. Joe Ross allowed five hits in relief.

Offensively, the long ball ruled for Washington, with home runs by Brian Dozier, Kurt Suzuki, and Victor Robles.

In the top of the first, third baseman, Howie Kendrick, grounded into a 6-4-3 double play, scoring Adam Eaton from third.

In the middle of the third inning, Brian Dozier homered to the left, while in the top of the fifth inning, right fielder, Adam Eaton, hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Victor Robles.

Furthermore, pinch hitter, Kurt Suzuki, hit a 3-run homer to the left.

Lastly, in the top of the ninth inning, Yan Gomes singled to center, scoring Howie Kendrick.

The Nationals wrap up the series with the Phillies at 2:05 PM at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Pitching for the Nationals will be Anibal Sanchez.
