Recap: Nationals Defeat Mets, 12-9

The Washington Nationals held off the New York Mets on Sunday afternoon in regular season action. The Nats’ record stands at 4-4. The Mets’ drop to 6-3.

Max Scherzer pitched a very strong six innings for Washington. Allowing 8 hits and 7 strikeouts while pitching. Joe Ross a relief pitcher for Washington played in his first game of the season struggled while he had 3 earned runs and 0 strikeouts.

Offensively, the long ball ruled for Washington. Belting out a three run homerun by third baseman Anthony Rendon which went to left center and hit off the facing of the upper deck. In the second inning, right fielder Adam Eaton hit a ground rule double deep left Difo and Scherzer both scored. Howie Kendrick hit a sacrifice to left center and centerfielder Victor Robles sored. Max Scherzer in the middle of the second inning, reached on an infield single to shortstop and leftfielder Juan Soto scored.

The Washington Nationals play the Philadelphia Phillies tonight at 7:05pm at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Pitching for the Nationals will be Anibal Sanchez.
