The Washington Nationals held off the Miami Marlins, 5-4, on Friday afternoon in spring training action. The Nats’ record now stands at 4-3. The Marlins drop to 2-5.

Stephen Strasburg pitched a very strong two innings for Washington. Allowing only one hit and no runs, Strasburg struck out two. Kyle Barraclough also impressed with a clean inning in relief. Unfortunately, Tanner Rainey struggled in relief for the Nats. The right-hander gave up two hits, two runs (one earned) and one walk in his one inning appearance.

Offensively, the long ball ruled for Washington. Belting four homers out of the park as a team, Brian Dozier, Yan Gomes, Michael A. Taylor and Victor Robles each contributed one dinger to the total.

Defensively,. the ninth inning was messy for the Nationals. Coming into the ninth with a 5-2 lead, Washington allowed Miami to narrow the margin to one run on errors by the pitcher, third baseman, shortstop and first baseman.

Tomorrow, the Nationals will face the Minnesota Twins at 1:05 pm ET in West Palm Beach.
