Recap: Nationals Defeat Astros 14-8

The Washington Nationals defeated the Houston Astros by a score of 14-8 on February 27th, 2019. Since Washington picked up the win, they’re now 3-2 on the season in Grapefruit League play. Veteran hurler Jeremy Hellickson took the mound for his first start in 2019(Spring Training). Hellickson threw two innings, giving up one hit, and throwing for three strikeouts in his outing.

To briefly summarize, the Nationals went on to score five runs in the first two innings, and despite allowing two runs just moments later, they would go on to score nine unanswered runs, in which the hitting parade ended in bottom of the 7th. Afterward, Houston would make an attempt at a comeback, scoring runs off singles and walks. However, the comeback attempt would fall short and the Nats would pick up the win, after a great day at the plate from the hitters by a score of 14-8. Across the board, Washington would have 12 different players collect hits, including Michael A. Taylor off the bench; who hit for two.

Next, the Nationals will continue spring play against the Boston Red Sox on February 28th, 2019(this game against Boston has concluded at the time of the writing of this article). Ace Max Scherzer will take the mound for the second time this spring, and his first start against Boston in 2019. Look for Washington to continue to give prospects more playing time as exhibition games continue through March.
