In an interview to coach Todd Reirden after the game:

“Again, I wanted to focus on the start of the game, and I liked our start, I liked the first 8-10 minutes of the game, and I thought we really tilted the ice in our favor, drew some penalties and were able to convert on the power play. And then, we didn’t want to manage the puck properly through the neutral zone, and it cost us a few goals. It’s been something that has been a little bit of a recurring theme through training camp and the exhibition season for us. We were firmly in control of that game in the first period, and we let them back in by how we wanted to play with the puck.”

At the end of the game, Braden Holtby made 31 saves and Petr Mrazek made 25 saves. On Sunday, the Washington Capitals will close their preseason by playing against the St. Louis Blues in the Capital One Arena at 3pm.
