RAW Recap 7/16/18

Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley to Meet for Number One Contendership

At the beginning of the show, Raw GM Kurt Angle reiterated his announcement that Universal Champion Brock Lesnar would need to show up or he would be stripped of the title. Instead of Lesnar, Paul Heyman showed and pleaded with Angle to allow Lesnar to keep the title. The two came to an agreement that Lesnar would defend his title against someone at Summerslam, the only question was who.

This of course led to a slew of superstars making their way to the ring to make their case, including Roman Reigns, Bobby Lashley, Elias, Finn Bálor, Seth Rollins, and Drew McIntyre. Angle decided to make two triple threat matches with the winner of each facing off next week to become the challenger to Lesnar at Summerslam.

The first match began the night, and featured the trio of Reigns, McIntyre, and Bálor. All three superstars contributed heavily, and the match delivered on all fronts, undoubtedly becoming the match of the night. Reigns pulled out the victory in a fast paced match and moved on to next week. The second match main evented the show and featured Lashley, Elias, and Rollins. In what was a slower but also entertaining match, Lashley picked up the victory after delivering a spear to Elias. Lashley and Reigns will continue their rivalry into an anticipated matchup next week for the number one contendership.

Ziggler Maintains Winning Ways

Fresh off of his victory at Extreme Rules over Rollins, Dolph Ziggler faced off in a non title matchup against Bobby Roode. The match was highly competitive, but Ziggler finished off Roode to continue building momentum towards Summerslam.

Ronda Rousey to Face Alexa Bliss at Summerslam

A night removed from her successful title defense, Bliss came out to gloat to the WWE Universe. During her promo, Ronda Rousey made an appearance, coming through the crowd and to the ring. She got her hands on both Mickie James and Alexa Bliss, nearly putting Bliss in her patented armbar before Kurt Angle interrupted. He tacked another week onto Rousey’s suspension, but also told her as long as she honored the suspension she would get a title match against Bliss at Summerslam.

Rematch Scheduled for Next Week

The B Team had a match with The Ascension following their title win at Extreme Rules the night before. After a relatively quick win, the Deleters of Worlds appeared on the Jumbotron, demanding a title rematch for next week on Raw. As of now the two teams are scheduled for that match.
