Ravens terminate Rice
The Baltimore Ravens have terminated the contract of Ray Rice after the video of Rice punching his then fiancée has surfaced. Rice will be a free agent and was already suspended for the first two games of the season.
After the NFL suspension to Rice drew controversy, Commissioner Roger Goodell admitted he made a mistake and redefined the personal conduct policy. Rice will be free to sign with any other team if his suspension is not extended.
The Ravens have previously been patient and stood by Rice but after the video was released something had to be done. This is the right move by the Ravens.
The Ravens will have a press conference tonight. Not much information was given in the press release. It is unlikely that any team will sign Rice this season and while this was not a football move by the Ravens, it had to be done. On the field, Rice was one of the best running backs in Ravens’ history.
Update: Roger Goodell has suspended Rice indefinitely based on the new evidence.
