Ravens take Mosley with the 17th pick

The Baltimore Ravens have selected middle linebacker C.J. Mosley with the 17th overall pick in the draft.  Mosley is the first linebacker the Ravens have selected in the first round since Ray Lewis in 1996.

Mosley is 6’2” 234 pounds and played his college football at Alabama.  The Ravens needed more inside linebackers and have had a history of having good ones.  The Ravens followed their tradition of drafting the best player available with Mosley.  Picking Mosley should push Arthur Brown to the number three middle linebacker position.  Injuries are common with linebackers so having depth the Ravens adding depth to their middle linebacker position is huge for a playoff run.

Mosley is a fast downhill linebacker but has been lower down by some injuries which is concerning.  Mosley could be am every down player if he stays healthy.  Mosley has very good instincts which is very important at the linebacker position.

This is a good pick for the Ravens as a good middle linebacker can lead a teams defense for years.  More to come.

Here is a Ravens press release with some info on Mosley.

The Baltimore Ravens will hold a press conference with first-round draft choice LB C.J. Mosley at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 9, in the auditorium of the Under Armour Performance Center in Owings Mills.
