Ravens sign veteran DB Marcus Gilchrist to practice squad

The Baltimore Ravens signed veteran defensive back Marcus Gilchrist to their practice squad on Wednesday. He was originally drafted in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Clemson by the then-San Diego Chargers and has had stints with the New York Jets, Houston Texans, Detroit Lions (for three days), Las Vegas Raiders (when they were in Oakland), and most recently with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The 31-year-old has played both cornerback and safety during his first nine years in the league, has recorded 14 career interceptions, and has started 98 of his 126 career games. His best season as a pro came in 2015 as a member of the Jets where he recorded career highs in tackles (82), pass deflections (seven), and interceptions (three).

Gilchrist was most recently with the Jaguars in 2019, appeared in three games, and recorded just two tackles before being released in December. He will fill the spot on the practice squad that was vacated when safety Jordan Richards was permanently promoted to the 53-man roster following the season-ending injury to nickelback Tavon Young in Week Two.
